Hubballi’s Manas Institute provides ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for suicidal depression
Hubballi: Manas Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences has started conducting intravenous Ketamin-assisted treatment psychotherapy for patients with treatment-resistant depression, said neuropsychiatrist Dr Alok Kulkarni.
He said this is a unique and novel treatment that provides rapid relief to patients who have suicidal ideation and suicidal depression.
He said this treatment requires sophisticated infrastructure such as a multipara monitor, anesthesia workstation, intubation kit, and cardiac defibrillator. It also requires the presence of an anesthesiologist throughout the procedure. Patients who have not responded to traditional antidepressants and counselling are ideal candidates for this novel treatment, he said.
Manas Institute of Mental Health has the requisite infrastructure and expertise in conducting this novel treatment and has been regularly conducting Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy sessions for people battling suicidal and treatment-resistant depression.
